Autumn Skirt; A Refashion
| 1st Autumn Refashion |
This is one of two skirts that I have planned for refashions. Its quite challenging buying all my fabric from charity shops. I have a skirt idea in my mind and then I have to change it to fit the fabric that I have available. With this skirt I had a lot of fabric to hand however, so I could stick to my initial plans and true to the design (yay!)
I wanted to make this skirt up to wear it to the Great British Sewing Bee live event. I won tickets on Handmade Janes blog and I definitely had to wear something me-made! The event was brill, so lovely to see lots of sewers and many different outfits and styles. I loved spotting some of my fave bloggers and instagrammers too! Cant wait to go to more events like it.
Im embracing the autumnal vibes at the minute, its gotten so cold here up north and its definitely time to get out the checks and wools! To make this I simply cut of the pockets and cut the bottom of the dress so i could use it for my main skirt- and I could keep them hem intact because that was a niceeeeee hem! I then took it in at the side seams to fit how I wanted.
Next was the tricky bit, I wanted a skirt that had a button closure off to the side at the front. So i cut the button closure of the back, snipped into the front of my skirt and attached it on there! I finished it off by adding a waistband which I continued on past the button closure and finished with a popper.
Total bonus that this dress had lining! Im so happy with this final result and I have a bit of the fabric left which I can now use to make so hair accessories or something! What do you think? Lots of Love, Maria!
